Army Wives Embrace Sports to Build Strength and Community

Kamuzu Barracks will conduct Inter-company sports activities for millitary spouses on February 28,to March 8,2025 organized by  Millitary Family Support Services (MDFSS).

These sporting events provide a vital outlet for spouses of  soldiers,fostering  resilience and unity within Millitary communities.

MDFSS spokesperson,Sally Mussa emphasized the importance of such activities,stating" Army Wives play a crucial role in supporting our soldiers ,and  these sports initiatives help them stay physically and mentally strong." 

"It is about creating a network of support among millitary families." 

The Regimental Sergeant Major(RSM) of Second Malawi Rifles(2MR) Warrant Officer Class One (wo1) Banda, praised the efforts of the significance of their engagement.

"Our soldiers perform at their best when they know their  families are thriving ,in sports provide a healthy way for army wives to stay engaged,relieve stress, and build friendships that help them navigate the unique challenges of millitary life."

Among the participants who are conducting training for the big day Linly Kasiyamo ,whose husband is currently deployed shared her experience.


 It can be tough when your spouse is away,but sports activities gives us sense of purpose and belonging .

"We support each other like family and it makes a huge difference".

The initiative has also recieved positive feedback from soldiers who appreciate the support their spouses .

"Knowing that my wife has a strong community behind her makes my job easier." Said Corporal Frank Kasiyamo , currently serving in North Kivu Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

As army wives continue to embrace sports as a key of their lives ,the benefits  extends beyond physical fitness.

On the closing day there will be some dances like Chisamba , kamuzu Barracks women's aerobics  and volleyball game to spice up the events.
