Billie Zangewa Malawi's Artistic Gem Shines Globally

Malawian artist Billie Zangewa based in the city of Johannesburg south Africa, has made a name for herself  with her unique  blend of textile art journey is a testament to her resilience and creativity. 

Zangewa uses silk embroidery to create collage tapestries and layered pieces that represent the complexities of her identity. 

"I'm proud to be Malawian artist i believe my work is a reflection of beauty and resilience of African culture." Zangewa said . 

Zangewa 's art is not just about creating beautiful conversations is also about challenging societal norms . 

"My art is a way of telling my story and stories of those who have been marginalized or silenced ." She said. 


A curator and art critic Khwezi Gule attributed that zangewa's art has been praised  by art critics and enthusiasts alike with many noting her unique ability to blend a traditional African textiles with contemporary themes and techniques. 

"Billie Zangewa 's art is a testament to the power of creativity and the importance of amplyfying African voices". Gule said. 

Zangewa's artistic work has gained international recognition with international exhibitions in London and Paris galleries aswel as museums around the world .

"Tomato Shortage Hits Lilongwe:Prices Skyrocket as Supply Dwindles"

Picture: Tomato affected by pests and diseases.  February 6 ,2025 A severe shortage of Tomatoes has hit Lilongwe, leaving consumers scrambling to find the staple ingredient and driving prices up by as much as 50%. The scarcity, attributed to a combination of factors including drought, pests and diseases, has affected major markets in Lilongwe.  "We used to sell tomatoes at MK250 each tomato but now we are selling at MK500" said Fostina Kumkwezu, a vendor at Kawale market. "It has been a challenge to find Tomatoes and when we do they are  expensive."said Mary Chirwa a consumer. The Ministry of Agriculture has attributed the shortage to a combination of factors including pests and diseases. "We are working with Farmers to address the challenges they are facing",said Ministry of Agriculture spokes person Priscilla Mateyu. The Ministry of Health conduts walk-in interviews for Health workers

By: Jane Chimchere  April 2, 2025 The Ministry of Health has launched a nationalwide recruitment drive to 6,000 health workers in April, aiming to address staffing shortages in health facilities across Malawi through walk- in interviews at regional centres.  In a memo signed by secretary to to health Samson Mndolo , the initiative aims to fill critical vacancies in various healthcare facilities , particularly in rural areas where medical personnel are scare.  According to the statement from the Ministry, the recruitment process will priotize candidates willing to serve in rural health centres and district hospitals , prosectives applicants who are unwilling to work in these areas have been advised not to attend the interviews.  The positions available include senior biomedical engineers , clinic officers , pharmacists just to mention a few. To qualify applicants must have graduated from accredited imstitutions and be registered with relevant professional bodies....
