Community Seeks Justice as Mother Disowns Son

Chiuzira market in Area 23 is thrown into chaos when an angry mob attempted to set fire on a young boy Mavuto Mailosi after repeated thefts in the market , despite having previously remanded at Area 23 police station, for stealing food and his mother Anna Kabutaya shocked the crowd when she refused to protect him . 

"I am tired of him do whatever you want i have tried my best to reason with this boy ." With tears in her eyes Kabutaya said. 

Eyewitnesses say the mob gathered at Chiuzira ground after Mavuto was caught red handed stealing food at Chiuzira market , furious residents armed with sticks and some kerosene demanded immediate justice saying "wachake ndi wachake sadzasintha . " 

"We cannot continue like this shouted local shop owner how can a small boy continue stealing terrorizing the markert ." They said.


Chairperson Idris Alabi attempted to calm the crowd to seek legal justice instead of violence.
" We must follow the right path, yes he has wronged us but burning him alive is nit the answer " Alabi said.

However others were less forgiving saying the boy has brought shame to his mother .

As tensions rose chairperson for Chiuzira market called the police to intervene .They handed Mavuto to the authorities once again urging the mob to disperse 

Mavuto visibly shaken pleaded for mercy " I know i have done wrong but please give me another chance ." He said.

For now the fate of the young boy remains uncertain, will the ones he stole from forgive him and not press charges or will he face the wrath of those he has betrayed.

"Tomato Shortage Hits Lilongwe:Prices Skyrocket as Supply Dwindles"

Picture: Tomato affected by pests and diseases.  February 6 ,2025 A severe shortage of Tomatoes has hit Lilongwe, leaving consumers scrambling to find the staple ingredient and driving prices up by as much as 50%. The scarcity, attributed to a combination of factors including drought, pests and diseases, has affected major markets in Lilongwe.  "We used to sell tomatoes at MK250 each tomato but now we are selling at MK500" said Fostina Kumkwezu, a vendor at Kawale market. "It has been a challenge to find Tomatoes and when we do they are  expensive."said Mary Chirwa a consumer. The Ministry of Agriculture has attributed the shortage to a combination of factors including pests and diseases. "We are working with Farmers to address the challenges they are facing",said Ministry of Agriculture spokes person Priscilla Mateyu. The Ministry of Health conduts walk-in interviews for Health workers

By: Jane Chimchere  April 2, 2025 The Ministry of Health has launched a nationalwide recruitment drive to 6,000 health workers in April, aiming to address staffing shortages in health facilities across Malawi through walk- in interviews at regional centres.  In a memo signed by secretary to to health Samson Mndolo , the initiative aims to fill critical vacancies in various healthcare facilities , particularly in rural areas where medical personnel are scare.  According to the statement from the Ministry, the recruitment process will priotize candidates willing to serve in rural health centres and district hospitals , prosectives applicants who are unwilling to work in these areas have been advised not to attend the interviews.  The positions available include senior biomedical engineers , clinic officers , pharmacists just to mention a few. To qualify applicants must have graduated from accredited imstitutions and be registered with relevant professional bodies....
