Makasu Band dates Lilongwe

Makasu Band led by its veteran players  Peter Likhomo and Colin Ali and  supported by Mr Entertainer Jai Banda takes to the stage this weekend to perform at Aero Lounge in Lilongwe. 

The band famed for songs such  as Sikunala and Napolo returned to the fold recently having been out of the limelight for years. 

Makasu which made a name  during the times of late Bright Livewire Nkhata has had a number of performances in Blantyre but now it will invade the capital city to show music lovers that it is ready to reclaim glory . Supported by the six Band.

Makasu is also on a mission to release their new album which is currently being finalised. 

"This is the first time we will be performing in Lilongwe since we announced our comeback . We are thankful to Mr Entertainer Jai Banda the last Samurai for the support we have been  practising for sometime without holding performances." Likhomo, a bass guitarist, said. 

Apart from Likhomo and other  members of the group include trumpeter Wallace Ng'oma , drummer  Vincent Manyozo  keyboardist Chiko Mulera and lead vocalist Kenzo B. 

Aero Lounge Marketing Manager William Ngwira said they were excited to host Makasu Band promising nothing but an electrifying night of live music and unforgettable experiences . 

" It is an honor to have a band of their Calibre perform at our venue. We also extend our gratitude to Mr Entertainer a true icon in Malawi 's entertainment scene whose support continues to elevate live music and cultural experiences. " Ngwira said.

"Tomato Shortage Hits Lilongwe:Prices Skyrocket as Supply Dwindles"

Picture: Tomato affected by pests and diseases.  February 6 ,2025 A severe shortage of Tomatoes has hit Lilongwe, leaving consumers scrambling to find the staple ingredient and driving prices up by as much as 50%. The scarcity, attributed to a combination of factors including drought, pests and diseases, has affected major markets in Lilongwe.  "We used to sell tomatoes at MK250 each tomato but now we are selling at MK500" said Fostina Kumkwezu, a vendor at Kawale market. "It has been a challenge to find Tomatoes and when we do they are  expensive."said Mary Chirwa a consumer. The Ministry of Agriculture has attributed the shortage to a combination of factors including pests and diseases. "We are working with Farmers to address the challenges they are facing",said Ministry of Agriculture spokes person Priscilla Mateyu. The Ministry of Health conduts walk-in interviews for Health workers

By: Jane Chimchere  April 2, 2025 The Ministry of Health has launched a nationalwide recruitment drive to 6,000 health workers in April, aiming to address staffing shortages in health facilities across Malawi through walk- in interviews at regional centres.  In a memo signed by secretary to to health Samson Mndolo , the initiative aims to fill critical vacancies in various healthcare facilities , particularly in rural areas where medical personnel are scare.  According to the statement from the Ministry, the recruitment process will priotize candidates willing to serve in rural health centres and district hospitals , prosectives applicants who are unwilling to work in these areas have been advised not to attend the interviews.  The positions available include senior biomedical engineers , clinic officers , pharmacists just to mention a few. To qualify applicants must have graduated from accredited imstitutions and be registered with relevant professional bodies....
