Army Wives Embrace Sports to Build Strength and Community

These sporting events provide a vital outlet for spouses of  soldiers,fostering  resilience and unity within Millitary communities. FAM and Scorchers Join Hands in Tree planting

Haiya said this on Tuesday when he led the Malawi National Women's Football team in a tree planting exercise along the bypass road between Chinyonga and Kamuzu highway in Blantyre. The FAM president said he thought of leading the tree planting exercise as a way of conserving the environment. Haiya said football is played by the players who leave in communities where they also need nature ,one of which being trees . Heavy Rains, strong winds Batter Lilongwe, Disrupting Transport and Power

Heavy rains and strong winds swept through area 23,Lilongwe on Wednesday causing widespread power outages, flooding roads,and disrupting transportation across the city. The downpour,which lasted for several hours ,brought down trees and power lines, leaving several neigborhoods in darkness. Motorists and commuters faced delays as key roads, were partially submerged in water According to the Department of Climate change and Meteorological services(DCCMS),the extreme weather was caused by  a low  pressure system moving through region. Rebuilding Lives : kadzamila and Maulidi Kabaza Accident Aftermath

The crashes left them with severe injuries , including broken bones , head trauma , and emotional scars.  As they navigate the long and painful recovery process, Jabesi and Leah faced numerous challenges.  Kadzamila attributed to in ability to pay his medical expenses.  "I am un able to pay my medical bills due to inability to work , because i lost my money during the accidents and am incapacitated." He said . Rising Motorcycle Accidents raise safety concerns as Survivors struggle to recover

Said Experts. Recent cases, such as that of Jabesi kadzamila and Leah Maulidi,highlight the devastating effects of such accidents. Jabesi kadzamila,a survivor attributed that" i was on my way to attend a funeral at my village in lilongwe Traditional authority Mazengera when i was involved in a motorcycle accident, it happened because the motorcycle had no brakes and it collided with a minibus at kawale". Malawi Facing Acute Food Insecurity

February 7,2025 The National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) has disclosed that the country currently holds stock levels of 40,000 metric tonnes in maize . The announcement coincides with the 2024 Malawi  Vulnerability Assessment (MVAC) report,, which predicted that approximately 4.2 million Malawians will face  high levels of acute food insecurity in the country.  In an interview with MIJ FM's Alex Batison, NFRA Executive Director, George Macheka, said  that due to insufficient maize  stock levels , the agency is in  the process of  importing maize from Tanzania.  Macheka disclosed that almost 20,000 metric tonnes will be  imported from Tanzania in two  phases, starting with 95,000 metric to enhance Malawi's food security. 

"Tomato Shortage Hits Lilongwe:Prices Skyrocket as Supply Dwindles"

Picture: Tomato affected by pests and diseases.  February 6 ,2025 A severe shortage of Tomatoes has hit Lilongwe, leaving consumers scrambling to find the staple ingredient and driving prices up by as much as 50%. The scarcity, attributed to a combination of factors including drought, pests and diseases, has affected major markets in Lilongwe.  "We used to sell tomatoes at MK250 each tomato but now we are selling at MK500" said Fostina Kumkwezu, a vendor at Kawale market. "It has been a challenge to find Tomatoes and when we do they are  expensive."said Mary Chirwa a consumer. The Ministry of Agriculture has attributed the shortage to a combination of factors including pests and diseases. "We are working with Farmers to address the challenges they are facing",said Ministry of Agriculture spokes person Priscilla Mateyu. The Executive Director  of Consumers Association of Malawi(CAMA) attributed that "it is increasingly difficult to afford tomatoes....
